Our annual reports review all our activities for the calendar year, as set out by our corporate plan. It covers the projects undertaken as part of our focus on effective regulation of party and election finance, and ensuring elections and electoral registration are well-run.
Annual report 2009-10
We have published our annual report for 2009-10. In the last 12 months we have:
- developed a new enforcement policy setting out how we will use the new powers introduced by the Political Parties and Elections Act 2009
- completed a major research project into the completeness and accuracy of electoral registers (PDF)
- continued to monitor the performance of Electoral Registration Officers and Returning Officers
- ran one of the most successful public awareness campaigns in our history
- published Making your mark – a comprehensive resource to support local authorities in producing clear voting materials.

Annual report 2008-9
Being able to choose between different political views through free and fair elections is the foundation of our democracy. Our newly published Annual report 2008-9 (pdf) discusses how our focus continues to be on the effective regulation of party and election finance, and well-run elections and electoral registration. Our Resource accounts (pdf) are also available.
Annual report 2007-8
Our Annual report (PDF) discusses how during 2007-8 we enhanced our guidance and training to assist political parties to comply with party and election finance rules and how we intervened when they didn't; we continued to work on setting and preparing to monitor performance standards for electoral registration and electoral management; and undertook and published an assessment of electoral administration in the UK.
