We offer a total reward package to staff. Access a comprehensive list of the total reward package (PPT) here. More information on our pay and benefits is detailed below.
Pay levels
We have a job evaluation scheme in place to determine the value of each role. This means each job is given a points score, and this score equates to a monetary value; the value is determined by a salary matrix (PDF). There are different values for London based and devolved or English office based jobs. To ensure we maintain our transparent and fair pay system, we are unable to negotiate salary levels.
There are a small number of jobs which due to their specialist skill set or scarcity on the job market attract a market rate salary which is outside our job evaluation scheme. Market rates are determined by external benchmarking and/or salary surveys.
Pay increases
All permanent new starters join at the ‘advertised rate’ for the job and on their first anniversary of appointment* increase to the ‘year one rate’ for the job (see salary matrix above).
Fixed term contracts of one year or less start on the ‘year one rate’. Staff who are in job roles that attract a market rate salary are not eligible for the pay steps.
* Subject to satisfactory performance: satisfactory performance means passing probation and/or achieving an effective, strong or outstanding rating during your personal performance management assessment.
Probation
A six month probationary period usually applies to all permanent staff in new roles. The probation process provides a structured framework which enables new staff to gain a full understanding of their role and what is expected. This is achieved through setting objectives and regular meetings between the staff and their manager.
