Our policy work is carried out on a specific basis across four directorates. These four directorates, and the policy work they cover, are outlined below.
1. Electoral administration
This directorate provides advice and analysis to our Commissioners and Executive Team on public policy issues.
Their work includes:
- policy analysis and review
- managing the evaluation of electoral pilot schemes
- coordinating reports on local and national elections
- support of our policy positions
- input into the development of legislation
- coordinating responses to consultation exercises
2. Communications
This directorate leads on policy issues around political broadcasting, including party political broadcasts and the associated activities of the Broadcasters' Liaison Group. See our party election broadcasts page for more information.
3. Party and election finance
This directorate leads on policy issues around party and election finance. See our party finance area for more information.
4. Deputy Chief Executive
Although this directorate does not have responsibility for leading on policy issues itself, our local offices in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland often lead on policy and/or legislative issues that are specific to those parts of the UK.
