Criteria for selection of suppliers

Supplier selection

Supplier selection is based on the best overall demonstration of value for money.

Before arriving at a decision that demonstrates the best overall value for money, we consider, amongst our main criteria:

  • quality
  • reliability
  • experience
  • timely delivery
  • price

As far as possible and in adherence to EU directives and regulations, contracts are placed after inviting individuals/companies to submit tenders through a competitive exercise.

The number of individuals/companies invited to tender will vary with the nature of the procurement exercise and the availability of suitably qualified suppliers.

In many cases, due to the vast interest shown by interested parties we will undertake a pre-qualification process (expression of interest).

What suppliers must demonstrate

Potential suppliers must demonstrate within their submission their financial, commercial and technical capability to fully meet the requirements of the contract.

We will also take account of tenderers’ past performance with reference to contracts of a similar nature, both with ourselves and other organisations.

Additionally, we will be looking for a clear demonstration of compliance to equal opportunities in employment, commitment to the environment and to safe systems of working.

We may request references from previous and/or existing customers, bankers and business information companies. Additionally, site reference visits may be arranged in conjunction with the tenderer and nominated referees.
