Advice to the Secretary of State on unitary local government in Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk
In February 2008, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government asked the Boundary Committee for England to advise on unitary local government structure in Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk. On 7 December 2009 we provided that advice. We have made one or more alternative proposals for each county under review.- our alternative proposal for Devon is a unitary county authority with no changes to the boundaries of Plymouth or Torbay
- our alternative proposal for Norfolk is a unitary county authority
- a unitary county authority (our preferred pattern) and
- a two-unitary pattern comprising Ipswich & Felixstowe and Rural Suffolk
Before taking his statutory decisions there will be a period for representations to be made to the Secretary of State. This period will run from 8 December 2009 until 19 January 2010.
Further information and links to the relevant pages can be found on our about structural reviews page.
