If an individual or organisation purchases tickets to a dinner organised by a political party, are they making a donation?

The Commission takes the view that any charge in excess of the actual cost of the plate itself represents a donation to the party. Therefore, if an organisation or individual purchases a table at a dinner, the value of the donation would be the cost of booking the table, less the actual value of the meal itself. Where this amount is greater than £200, the donation must be recorded, and can only be accepted by the party if it is from a permissible source.
