We are responsible for commenting on the intelligibility of the referendum question proposed by the Government, using our question assessment guidelines.
The Secretary of State for Wales consulted us on the proposed question for the National Assembly for Wales referendum in June 2010. We assessed the question to see whether voters could understand it, and reported our findings. In our report we suggested that the question could be redrafted to make it easier for voters to understand.
The Secretary of State for Wales accepted our redraft and that question has been published in the legislation for the referendum.
