Sponsorship
Any money or other property transferred to a party (or to a person for the benefit of a party) for the purpose of helping the party to meet (or to avoid being incurred) any expenses in respect of the following:

(a) any conference, meeting or other event organised by or on behalf of the party

(b) the preparation, production or dissemination of any publication by or on behalf of the party, or

(c) any study or research organised by or on behalf of the party

It does not, however, include:

(a) the making of any payment in respect of:

  • any charge for admission to any conference, meeting or other event, or
  • the purchase price of, or any other charge for access to, any publication

(b) any payment for the inclusion of an advertisement in any publication where the payment is made at the normal commercial rate payable.

However, the Electoral Commission takes the view that these may nevertheless be treated as donations under Section 50(2) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

Statutory instrument
See Electoral Change Order.

Structural review
Structural reviews are conducted by the Boundary Committee for England to establish whether or not a single, all-purpose council (unitary authority) rather than two councils (county and district councils) would better reflect the identities and interests of local communities and lead to more effective and convenient local government. See also electoral review.
