Standing for election can be complicated, but we hope to help to make it as straightforward as possible. This page lists all of the guidance materials that we produced for candidates and agents involved in the Greater London Authority election in May 2008.
The information we have includes:
- our guidance for candidates and agents
- forms and resources for use before or during the elections
- forms and resources for use after the elections
Guidance
In cooperation with London Elects, we produced the following document: Guidance for candidates and agents: Greater London Authority election, 1 May 2008 (PDF)
Resources for before or during the elections
The following resources were developed for download to help with preparations leading up to the elections:
Forms
The following forms were available from London Elects:
- candidate's checklist
- nomination form
- consent to nomination
- authorisation of party description and emblem
- declaration of name and address of election agent
Other useful guidance and legislation
Resources for after the elections
We have produced downloadable copies of the required forms and explanatory notes to help candidates and election agents after the elections.
This applied to:
- candidates contesting the Mayor of London election
- London Assembly candidates standing on a registered party list
- London Assembly Constituency member candidates and individual candidates for London-wide member seats
Expenditure incurred by others
Any expenditure incurred by any other person or organisation, with the written authorisation of the election agent, had to be reported in a return to be submitted to the relevant officer within 21 days of the day the election result being declared. It is not the candidate or agent but the person who incurred the expenditure who needed to submit the return.

- return – Section 75
