Registering to vote

Resources

There are lots of resources for voters available on our sister-site About my vote.

Here you will find information about elections in your area, democratic institutions and guidance about registering to vote and how to vote, alongside some FAQs.

Am I registered to vote?

To find out if you are registered, you will need to contact your Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). You can find the contact details for your ERO by entering your postcode in the 'Your local area' box on About My Vote.

Electoral roll

We don't keep copies of the electoral roll (also known as the electoral register).

We often receive enquiries about the electoral roll (or electoral register as it is sometimes known). The electoral roll is held at your local electoral registration office (or council office in England and Wales). The Northern Ireland electoral register is held by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland.

You can find contact details for your local office by entering your postcode on our About my vote website.

Information for disabled voters

All voters have a right to vote independently and in secret. Local authorities in Great Britain now have to take proactive steps to ensure that polling stations don't disadvantage disabled people. Similar arrangements apply in Northern Ireland, but they are the responsibility of the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland.

You can find out more about accessibility for voters in the accessibility section on our About my vote website.

Get involved in democracy - visit our Do Politics site

Our Do Politics Centre is filled with resources for anyone who wants to know more about democracy and anyone who wants to teach others.

There is a tool kit with lots of free downloads, case studies and ideas for engaging different audience.

Who we are and what we do

We are an independent body set up by the UK Parliament. Our aim is integrity and public confidence in the democratic process. We regulate party and election finance and set standards for running elections; reporting on how well this is done.
