Glasgow voters urged to get ready for by-election

03 Nov 2009

The Electoral Commission, the independent elections watchdog, is reminding registered voters in the Glasgow North East constituency to get ready to have their say in the 12 November by-election.

Andy O’Neill, Head of the Electoral Commission in Scotland says: ”Voters should have received their poll cards and if you are voting in person, the card gives details of the polling place where you can vote. If you have not received a poll card, contact returning officer staff at City Chambers on 0141 287 5684/4194/4151 to find out where you should go to vote.

“If you are voting by post, we’d encourage you to complete your ballot paper and return it as soon as possible. And remember to include your date of birth and signature on the accompanying form.”

On 12 November, polling places will be open from 7am to 10pm. There are staff available at polling places to answer voters’ questions and provide help to anyone needing assistance. Voters do not need to bring their poll cards in order to vote.

Andy O’Neill: “Voters should put an ‘X’ in the box on the right hand side of the ballot paper, next to the name of the person they want to represent them in the UK Parliament. It’s as simple as that to have your say.”
