Partnership grants

The Partnership Grants Scheme closed in March 2010. To access resources for democratic participation activities, please visit our Do Politics Centre.

Through the Partnership Grants Scheme we worked with people who did not participate in the democratic process. The Scheme is now closed.

What was the Partnership Grants scheme?

Through the Partnership Grants scheme, we awarded grants of up to £100,000 per year to not-for-profit organisations such as registered charities, charitable companies and public bodies.

We then worked in partnership with these organisations to help develop and maximise the impact of their projects. We made 12 awards in 2006 and seven awards in 2007.

What did we fund?

As an outcome-led funder, we were interested in the difference that successful projects made to people's lives. As a result we funded projects that worked with people to:

  • increase their confidence so they would take part in all aspects of political decision making, particularly registering to vote
  • increase their awareness of how local, national and European democracy is organised and how decisions are made
  • increase the numbers who register to vote

Who was the scheme targeting?

We funded projects that worked with:

  • young people not in formal education
  • people from ethnic minority communities
  • people with disabilities

New Initiatives Fund

Before partnership grants we funded groups through the New Initiatives Fund, awarding grants to innovative projects across the UK. These grants aimed to:

  • increase involvement in the democratic process
  • raise awareness of elections and systems of government in the UK
