On 1 May 2008, local government elections took place in all councils in Wales and some, but not all, councils in England.
Our campaign for these local elections aimed to:
- increase the number of eligible people registered to vote
- provide information on the elections and how to take part
The campaign used the central theme 'if you want to vote, make sure nothing stops you'. The campaign provided voters with all the information they needed to vote, if they wished to (such as the registration deadline and polling station opening hours).
The campaign launched on 24 March with TV, radio, press, ambient and online advertising focused on encouraging registration in the run-up to the registration deadline on 16 April. A second phase commenced following the registration deadline to inform voters about election day itself and to remind them about polling station opening hours.
