European Parliamentary and English local elections 2009

European Parliamentary elections took place on 04 June 2009 across the whole of the UK, along with county council elections in some parts of England.

Our Great Britain campaign which  launched on 27 April aimed to:

  • increase the number of eligible people registered to vote
  • provide information on the elections and how to take part

The campaign used the central theme 'Make sure nothing stops you voting' and used an invisible barrier to show how not being registered prevents people from voting. Running on TV, radio, press, outdoor poster sites and online ads, the first phase of the campaign reminded people of the need to register if they wished to vote at the elections. The second phase informed voters about the election day itself, reminding them about polling station opening hours and how to fill out their ballot paper.
