London elections 2008

On 1 May 2008, Londoners went to the polls to elect a Mayor and representatives to sit on the London Assembly.

Our campaign, run in conjunction with London Elects, aimed to:

  • increase the number of eligible people registered to vote
  • provide information on the elections and how to take part

Creatively, we built upon the excitement that the London race generated, by showing people that they have a choice: registering, and having their say; or not, and finding their voice isn't heard.

The light-hearted theme of our 2007 England and Wales campaign - which proved to be effective in communicating the need to register in order to have your say - was continued, with a quirky illustrative style to ensure that the advertising stood out.

The first phase of the campaign launched in January, with outdoor and bus advertising reminding people of the need to register if they wish to vote in the upcoming elections.  The main registration phase launched on 24 March with TV, radio, press, outdoor and online advertising focused on encouraging registration in the run-up to the registration deadline on 16 April.

A second phase launched on 17 April to inform voters about election day itself and remind them about polling station opening hours, how to find their polling station, and information about how to cast their votes.
