Projects involving education and training

This page provides links to information about all projects funded under the New Initiatives Fund that provided education or training outside of a formal setting, to adults or young people.

Church Action on Poverty's Comic Democracy (PDF) project worked to raise awareness of government structures through a series of comics that would have wide appeal and encourage people to become more involved. 

Community Media Association provided training to community media projects (PDF) to assist them in producing imaginative programming, while abiding by the regulations set by broadcasters during an election period.

Broadway Homelessness and Support ran training modules for homeless people, created a democracy toolkit and put supporting information on their website for their Let's Get Political (PDF) project. 

Hexham Youth Initiative's Different Views (PDF) project worked with groups of disadvantaged young people in various ways, including peer education, cultural exchange opportunities and sharing information about ways to get involved in democracy. 

New Economics Foundation's People's Cafe (PDF) project ran discussion events to engage disabled people in civic life. 

Voluntary Action Leicester ran a VALUES Active Citizen (PDF) project which established citizenship groups. The groups encouraged people with a learning disability to get involved in consultation processes and helped them to understand the electoral process.

Sevenoaks District Council worked to connect young people with elected representatives at a local level in their Generation X Project (PDF)

West DEN undertook a number of initiatives as part of their Involve (PDF) project to engage young people in Devon with relevant political issues and encourage them to take part in democracy. 

Foyer Federation's Parliamentary Voice (PDF) project worked to increase Foyer residents' understanding of and participation in the political process.

Fairbridge's Active Voices (PDF) project worked with disengaged and disadvantaged young people to engage them with politics in their local area.

Young Lives (formally the Cambridge and Peterborough Council for Voluntary Youth Services) Partnership Action in Rural Communities (PDF) project worked to increase young people's awareness of the role of parish councils and increase their involvement in the decision-making processes of rural communities.
