Projects for women and girls

This page gives a brief description and links to projects that were funded under the New Initiatives Programme and worked with women and girls.

YWCA's 'It's a Girl Thing' (PDF) conference enabled young women aged 11-19 to become more active in public life.

Women into Politics ran two projects aiming to increase awareness of and participation in the democratic process with women who have suffered disproportionately as a result of the conflict in Northern Ireland:

Awaz Utaoh's project, Asian Women and Voting Awareness (PDF) worked in Bristol with South Asian women to raise their awareness of and engagement in decision-making in their communities, primarily through a weekly discussion workshop.

The Fawcett Society ran two projects:

  • the Make Some Noise (PDF) project used media campaigning in the run-up to local elections to encourage awareness of local democracy among women
  • the Value Your Vote (PDF) website worked to inspire women and girls to engage in politics, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the 1928 Equal Franchise Act

North East Womens Forum's Women Making a Difference (PDF) programme worked to increase women’s confidence and skills, enabling them to engage with issues in their communities and work towards addressing them, bringing about social change.

Hibbert Community Regeneration Centre's Electoral Awareness project (PDF) worked to increase awareness and understanding among Asian women of elections and government in the UK.
