The Hansard Society have run four projects providing support for teachers preparing for a visit by an elected representative, whether member of the UK parliament, the National Assembly for Wales or the Scottish Parliament:
- Members of Parliament (MPs) in Schools
- MPs in Schools in Scotland
- Assembly Members (AMs) in Schools
- Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) in Schools
Other Hansard Society projects in schools included
- Y Vote mock elections mirroring the Scottish Parliamentary elections.
- Y Vote Video was a video project aimed at black and minority ethnic students.
- The Heads Up internet forum for students was a forum for students to debate democratic issues.
Camden Borough Council partnered with the Camden Civic Society to deliver the Camden Schools Election Shadowing project enabling school students in years 10 to 12 to follow the electoral process and political campaigns leading up to the Greater London Authority and European Parliamentary Elections.
Sevenoaks District Council worked to connect young people with elected representatives at a local level in their Generation X Project
West Dunbartonshire Council's 'Holyrood to Hollywood' project used theatre to make democracy accessible to young people.
CEWC Cymru is a charity working with young people to promote understanding of the contemporary world. They ran three projects in schools:
- Your Say project aimed to make democratic participation an everyday element of young peoples lives
- Training for Democracy trained teachers and gave them enhanced skills in the teaching of democracy issues and application of democratic principles to classroom practice
- Skills for Democracy provided classroom resources and help for teachers in teaching democratic participation in the classroom
LANDED Peer Education Service ran a Political Peer Education Project to increase young people’s awareness and understanding of UK elections and government and encourage them to participate in democracy.
Kent County Council ran the Councilors in Schools project enabled young people to talk directly to their local Councilor in the classroom.
