Statements of accounts

Parties whose total income or gross expenditure is £250,000 or less are required to submit a statement of accounts within three months of their year end. Those parties that exceed this limit are required to submit their statement of accounts within six months of their year end.

Consultation paper

In July we consulted on draft proposals to standardise statements of accounts. The consultation has now closed and we have now reviewed and considered all of the responses that we received.

• We publish statements of accounts on our website in accordance with Schedule 46 and Schedule 5, Paragraph 7 of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act (PPERA) 2000 which requires that we 'as soon as reasonably practical after receiving the statement, make a copy available for public inspection.'
• The fact that a statement of accounts has been placed on the public record should not be taken to indicate that we have verified or validated it in any way.
• The content of some statement of accounts may not conform to best practice as outlined in our statement of accounts guidance notes. Some political parties and accounting units do not adopt the suggested format and fail to give adequate detail in their reports.
• Any views expressed within the statement of accounts and published on our website should not be viewed as being endorsed by us in any way.
• The quality of scanned images can be variable; while all should be legible, there can sometimes be imperfections that arise in the scanning process.

Financial accounts of political parties and accounting units that have an income or expenditure of more than £250,000 are listed below. The accounts cover the period 1 January to 31 December 2007 and have to be externally audited.
