Referendum expenditure

Any group or individual intending to spend £10,000 campaigning at a referendum must register with the Electoral Commission. Once registered, all campaigners are required to submit an expenditure return providing details of their spending.

In this section you will find summary tables, direct links to the returns and invoices of campaigners at the following referendums:

  • UK Parliamentary Voting System (held 5 May 2011)
  • National Assembly for Wales (held 3 March 2011)

Alternatively, you can view details of each return item, or extract the spending data from the system using our PEF online registers.

Campaigner spending at the referendum on the UK Parliamentary voting system

On 29 November 2011 we published details of spending by registered campaigners who spent more than £250,000 at the referendum on the UK Parliamentary voting system, which was held on 5 May 2011. Details of campaigner spending of £250,000 or less were published 31 August 2011.

Campaigner spending at 2011 National Assembly for Wales referendum

On 28 June 2011 we published of spending by registered campaigners who spent £250,000 or less at the referendum on the law-making powers of the National Assembly for Wales which took place on 3 March 2011.
