Resources for Returning Officers

Overview

Every county or county borough council is required to appoint an officer of the council to be the Returning Officer for the election of councillors to their local authority.

As Returning Officer you play a central role in the democratic process. Your role is to ensure that the election is administered effectively and that, as a result, the experience of voters and those standing for election is a positive one.
