Welcome to your Vote Week is all about developing the knowledge and confidence you need to cast your vote and discover other ways to get involved in democracy.

The theme for 2025 is get informed and get involved. This year, access trustworthy information to get informed about politics, democracy and elections, and take the first steps to get involved locally.

Get informed

How are you going to get informed about politics, democracy and elections this Welcome to Your Vote Week?

You could...

• Access trustworthy news sources such as Simple Politics or Full Fact 
• Explore how to navigate mis- and disinformation and fact check information online. A great place to start is Shout Out UK or Other Side of the Story 
• Practice fact checking what you read on social media
• Ask questions about issues that matter to you 
• Watch a debate at either the UK Parliament, Scottish Parliament, Senedd or Northern Ireland Assembly

Get involved

How do you want to get involved in democracy in your local area or community and have your say?

You could...

• Join your school council, local youth council or debate group 
• Write to your local representatives to share your opinion or raise an issue in your local area at WriteToThem 
• Start a conversation with people at home or in your community and ask questions about the things that matter to you 
• Start or sign a petition on the UK Government and Parliament website 
• Plan a project to make a positive change in your local area or community 
• Register to vote: if you’re 16 or over in England or Northern Ireland, or 14 or over in Scotland or Wales, you can register to vote at gov.uk/register-to-vote
