What is the Elections Act?
The UK government is making changes to the UK electoral system. The Election Act contains measures that affect:
- elections and the way we vote
- campaigning and the rules on campaign spending and funding
- parliamentary oversight of the Electoral Commission
Changes that have come into force so far include:
- Requirement to show ID at polling stations
- Changes to postal and proxy voting
- Improving the accessibility of elections
- The introduction of digital imprints
- Preventing undue influence and a new intimidatory sanction
