Key dates

As part of regulating party finance and maintaining transparency, parties must submit financial reports on donations, loans and expenditure by certain dates.

Parties are also under a duty to confirm their details and renew their registration every year.

Below you can find the deadline dates for the main reporting requirements for political parties in 2022.

30 January 2022

Deadline for submitting Quarter 4 (1 October 2021–31 December 2021) donations and loans reports

30 April 2022

Deadline for submitting Quarter 1 (1 January 2022–31 March 2022) donations and loans reports

Deadline for statement of accounts (income and expenditure of £250k or below) for year end 31 December 2021

5 May 2022

Polling day:

  • Council elections in Scotland
  • Local elections, combined authority mayoral elections and local authority mayoral elections in England
  • Local elections in Wales
  • Northern Ireland Assembly elections
6 June 2022

Deadline to receive invoices for the Northern Ireland Assembly election

4 July 2022

Deadline to pay invoices for the Northern Ireland Assembly election

7 July 2022

Deadline for statement of accounts (income or expenditure over £250k) for year end 31 December 2021

5 August 2022

Deadline for submitting spending return for the Northern Ireland Assembly election (expenditure £250k or below)

30 October 2022

Deadline for submitting Quarter 3 (1 July 2022–30 September 2022) donations and loans reports

5 November 2022

Deadline for submitting an audited spending return for the  Northern Ireland Assembly election (expenditure over £250k)
