Voters in Northern Ireland can apply for a postal vote if they are unable to make it to their polling station in person on polling day. They must provide a valid reason as to why they cannot attend, for example because of illness, disability, holiday or work arrangements.
The following can apply to vote by post in UK Parliamentary elections by submitting an application to Electoral Office for Northern Ireland:
A person aged 18 or over who is registered to vote
A person aged 18 or over who has applied to be registered to vote
A person who has been appointed to vote as a proxy on behalf of someone else
The application must be received by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland by 5pm on the fourteenth working day before the poll.1
The Chief Electoral Officer has no discretion to extend the deadline for whatever reason.
