Challenges to the election result

Election results may be challenged either by way of an election petition or by a judicial determination of disqualification of a duly elected candidate.

Your role as Local Returning Officer for both of these processes is limited. You should keep a robust audit trail of your decisions throughout the election period to be able to provide any necessary evidence as a result of an election petition.
