Candidates must formally consent to their nomination and deliver their consent by the deadline for delivery of nomination papers,1
which is by 4pm on the twenty-fourth working day before the poll. The consent to nomination form is prescribed in the election rules and the candidate must use this form or a form to like effect.2
It must be submitted by hand and cannot be submitted by post, fax, email or other electronic means.
The form must contain:
the candidate’s date of birth
a statement that to the best of their knowledge they are not disqualified
a statement that they meet one or more of the qualifications for standing3
The disqualification orders for candidates have been updated by the Elections Act 2022.4
It is for the candidate to ensure that they are not disqualified from standing. Neither you nor the Commission are able to confirm whether or not a candidate is disqualified.
The consent form must be signed and dated by the candidate and the date must be on or within one month before the last day for the delivery of nomination papers.
The consent must also be witnessed by another person. The witness’s address must be provided on the home address form.5
There are no restrictions on who can be a witness to the consent to nomination.
