Guidance for Candidates and Agents at Combined Authority Mayoral elections Share on Email Print this page Print full guidance You are in the Appointing your election agent and other agents section Guidance for Candidates and Agents at Combined Authority Mayoral elections What you need to know before you stand as a candidate Appointing your election agent and other agents Who can be an election agent There are no particular qualifications needed to be an election agent and you can be your own agent if you wish.However, the following people are not allowed to be election agents:1 the CARO or a local Returning Officer, or a member of their staff (including any clerks appointed specifically for the election)a deputy or clerk of the CARO or a local Returning Officer, or a member of their staffan officer of a local authority whose services have been placed at the disposal of the CARO or a local Returning Officera partner or clerk of any of the aboveIf you are standing as a party candidate, your party may also have specific rules about who you can appoint as an election agent. 1.
