The report makes a number of recommendations relating to the resilience of the electoral system and improvements to the experiences of those participating in and delivering elections in the future.
Commenting on the report, Vijay Rangarajan, Chief Executive, said:
“The electoral system is a crucial part of the UK’s critical national infrastructure and is coming under increasing pressure. We welcome the Committee’s report and clear recommendations to improve the resilience of the system and to better support voters to participate.
“We particularly welcome the report’s conclusions on improving democratic education for young people and addressing the unacceptable levels of abuse and intimidation of candidates. The Commission has an ambitious five-year plan to meet these challenges, and we will work with government, the electoral community and partners to ensure elections maintain confidence.
“We are also pleased to see the Committee's recognition of the role the Commission plays. We will now carefully consider the report’s recommendations for our work and update the Committee on progress.”
