Electoral fraud data
Summary
We use the term 'electoral fraud' to refer to cases where someone has committed, or is alleged to have committed, specific electoral law offences. These are offences that cover registering to vote, candidate nomination, campaigning and voting.
Electoral fraud cases
The Electoral Commission and police take allegations of electoral fraud seriously and act on them. Voters must be able to trust that elections are secure and conducted with integrity.
Out of over 200 elections and more than four million votes, there were 265 cases of alleged electoral fraud in 2025. Each was an isolated case.
The data consistently shows there is no evidence of large-scale electoral fraud. The majority of cases of alleged electoral fraud (88%) resulted in the police taking no further action or were locally resolved through words of advice to those involved.
