Organisations working directly with voters, including local authorities and charities, can play an important role in supporting voters ahead of the mayoral and local government elections happening in some parts of England on 7 May 2026.
We have created a range of resources to support people to register to vote, identify which forms of photo ID are accepted when voting, and to apply for free voter ID if they need it. We have also produced resources which can be used to support people to cast their vote on polling day.
Voter registration
To support our advertising campaign, we have created a range of resources to help local authorities and civil society organisations promote voter registration and raise awareness of the 20 April 2026 deadline to register.
These resources feature representatives from groups that are less likely to be registered to vote or who may face additional barriers, such as people experiencing homelessness, people with learning disabilities, Muslim women, and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. The resources were developed in partnership with Shelter, United Response, Brighton and Hove Muslim Forum, and Friends, Families and Travellers.
Our range of digital resources includes a variety of social media graphics and template copy, email signatures and web banners.
Our posters come in different sizes and in both ‘ready-to-print’ and ‘commercial print’ options – make sure you choose the right ones for you.

Voter ID
Voters in England are legally required to show photo identification (ID) when voting at a polling station at all elections, including the local elections on 7 May 2026.
We have published resources to support voters, and people who work with them, to meet the voter ID requirement. These include resources tailored to the needs of people who are registered to vote anonymously, or who might benefit from doing so, such as domestic violence survivors.
Our Guide to Elections provides the key information voters need to be able to vote, including information on the voter ID requirement.

We also have accessible formats and translated versions specific to the May 2026 local elections in England.
Our A5 summary insert has been designed as a template that councils can use to share information on their upcoming elections with voters in their area. It can be included in mailings to voters, such as council tax bills or annual canvass communications.
If you are a local authority and would like to add your council logo and insert details of an upcoming election, please contact [email protected] (Opens in new window) to request the design files for the template.
