Living abroad

If you live abroad, or you’re thinking about living outside of the UK one day, you’ll still be able to vote in UK Parliament elections.

As long as you’ve been registered to vote in the UK or have previously lived in the UK, you’ll be able to continue voting for your MP.

Voters who live outside the UK are not able to vote in local council elections.

You will need to register to vote as an overseas voter. This only takes five minutes. Once registered, you may wish to consider a postal or proxy vote in order to cast your vote.

If you left the UK before you were old enough to vote, you will need to include your parent’s or guardian’s details and a copy of your birth certificate when you register to vote.
