Which nationalities can vote at which elections?

UK Parliamentary elections

All British, Republic of Ireland and qualifying Commonwealth citizens meet the nationality requirement to register to vote in UK Parliamentary elections.1  

Local government elections

British citizens, citizens from the European Union and qualifying Commonwealth citizens all meet the nationality requirement to register to vote in local government elections.2  

Other elections

The local government election franchise is also used as the basis for elections to the Greater London Authority,3 as well as for Police and Crime Commissioner elections.4
