Welcome to Your Vote Week 2026 - Monday 9 March to Sunday 15 March
Every year we ask schools and youth groups to join us in celebrating democracy by delivering democratic education with their students and young people.
We aim to support young people to develop the knowledge and confidence they need to cast their vote and discover other ways to get involved in democracy.
Save the date for Welcome to Your Vote Week 2026: Monday 9 to Sunday 15 March.
Take a look at the case studies below for some activity inspiration!
How people got involved in 2025
In 2025, our Youth Voice Champions helped to set the theme of ‘Get Informed and Get Involved’, and plenty of people did just that.
Schools, youth groups and local authorities across the UK got creative with their involvement. From mock votes to manifestos, resources to registration drives, young people enjoyed all sorts of opportunities to learn about democracy.
After taking part in the week:
85%* said taking part increased their young people’s knowledge of democracy
76%* said their young people’s confidence to engage in democracy had improved
70%* said the likelihood of their young people registering to vote had increased
*Percentage of survey respondents.
Case studies
Braintree District Council
Braintree District Council invited students from local schools to a ‘Democracy Day’, where they found out more about how elections work alongside the Chair, Councillor Lyn Walters. Over 40 young people learned about layers of decision making and the UK voting process. They then had the opportunity to create a new name for the partnership, before taking part in a real-life vote to reveal the winning name!
Montrose Academy
Montrose Academy took the opportunity to introduce new democracy topics to their S3 Modern Studies students. Building on the success of last year’s lessons, the class explored the topic of voting - this time focusing on how to actively take part in the process. After learning more, the students created informative guides to help others understand how to vote.
