Our culture and values

Our vision and values

Our brand values and vision statement reflect the Commission's ambitions moving forward and describe the kind of organisation we want to be as we look to deliver our new Corporate Plan. They will give consistency and direction to our internal and external activity, shape stakeholder perceptions, and guide our approach to work.

Our vision

A fair democracy fit for the future.

Our values

We are committed to removing barriers in the electoral system, and lead by example. We put voters first and aim to be accessible to all.

We’re independent and politically impartial, using data to advise, inform, and drive progress. We provide clear insight that supports decision-making.

We instil trust through our clear communication and our approachable and passionate people. Responsible, proportionate and fair, our words are backed by action.

We are a team player, supporting and working with others to deliver the best for voters and candidates. We are proactive and constructive with those we regulate.

Our people strategy

Our people strategy places our people at the heart of what we do.

It has been shaped by everyone at the Commission, drawing on feedback from our Staff Engagement Group, the Senior Leadership Team, trade union representatives and focus groups.

People strategy

We help our people develop lifelong skills by creating a positive environment for learning.

We empower and incentivise our people to learn, grow and take ownership of their career development.

We ensure that learning is seen as an important part of achieving the Commission’s goals.

We have made development the focus of our performance review process.

We encourage open, honest and constructive conversations.

Our recruitment and selection process is user friendly, streamlined, engaging, and accessible. It ensures the Commission reflects the people it serves.

We’re committed to providing an inclusive and diverse working environment. All colleagues are treated with equality, dignity and respect.

We do not tolerate bullying and harassment, both within the organisation and in our relationships with stakeholders.

Shivam, Finance Assistant

As the first apprentice at the Commission, I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given. I’ve been allowed to grow into my role and have been given the trust to take on duties and responsibilities which have made me feel a part of the team. I feel like I have been given the foundations for a great career ahead. I’m hopeful that there will be plenty more apprentices after me, because the Electoral Commission is a great place to work.
