Organisations working directly with voters play a vital role in providing trusted information to their communities, particularly those under-represented on the electoral register. With strong relationships on the ground, they can help ensure people have the knowledge they need to participate in democracy.

Some of our partner organisations have worked directly with the people they support to co-create tailored resources that meet their needs. Resources include information on voter registration, accepted forms of photo ID, applying for a Voter Authority Certificate if needed and other information about the voting process. 

These resources are designed to help those who may face barriers in the process, making democratic engagement more accessible for all.
 

Resources by audience

Friends, Families and Travellers, in collaboration with members of the Romany Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities and the Roma Support Group, have developed a series of voting resources. 

These materials were commissioned by the Electoral Commission and have been designed to explain each stage of the voting process and to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities:

  • Registering to vote, including how to register without a fixed address 
  • The voter ID requirement
  • Which elections require photo ID
  • Accepted forms of ID
  • Applying for a Voter Authority Certificate
  • What to expect at the polling station
  • Other ways to vote; voting by post or proxy

The Royal National Institute for Deaf people (RNID) has produced a series of British Sign Language (BSL) videos to provide accessible information about voting in UK elections. These resources were commissioned by the Electoral Commission and form part of a broader set of web pages covering key topics, including:

  • Voter ID requirements

The Race Equality Foundation has created resources for Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic voluntary organisations to use in their local community outreach. These include:

  • Easy Read Guides and infographics on democracy and voter ID requirements. These are also available in Punjabi, Polish,  Urdu, Bengali, Gujurati, and Arabic.
  • Video series featuring community voices explaining the importance of voting and the registration process
  • Posters and digital media for social media and print, tailored to diverse linguistic and cultural groups
