Members of Parliaments and Assemblies 

Members of:

  • the House of Commons
  • the Scottish Parliament
  • the Senedd 
  • the Northern Ireland Assembly

cannot be the Mayor for a Combined Authority.1 While they can stand as a candidate at the combined authority election, if successful, the individual would have to resign their current seat within eight calendar days of being elected to the combined authority.

Combined Authority Mayors standing for election to UK Parliament

The Mayor for a Combined Authority cannot be a member of:2

  • the UK Parliament
  • the Scottish Parliament
  • the Senedd 
  • the Northern Ireland Assembly

While they can stand as a candidate at the above mentioned elections, if successful, the Mayor would have to resign their seat as Combined Authority Mayor within eight calendar days of being elected to the relevant seat.

Members of the House of Lords are not disqualified from standing or being a combined authority mayor.
