The PARO will tell you when you can inform the candidates and agents who are present, of the local count totals and the statement of rejected ballot papers.
The PARO will also inform you when you can declare the local results.
When planning for the declaration of the local results you should:
decide on the exact location in the venue where public announcements and declarations will take place and who will be on the platform at these times
ensure the platform is accessible for all those who need to get up on it
consider if you could make use of display boards to provide a suitable backdrop for the announcement of local totals
check any equipment that you will use for the announcement before the proceedings begin
double-check that the local total is accurate, and that it is written in the form of words for oral delivery in order to avoid any errors - you may need to repeat the declaration so that those in attendance are able to hear the detail clearly, particularly where there is noise from those attending
consider how you will provide media representatives in attendance with a written copy of the local totals at the time the announcement is made as this will help them to ensure that their transmission of figures is accurate
make sure you follow the requirement to draw up a final statement and make a declaration of the local totals and the details of the rejected ballot papers under each heading
Declaration of Police Area results
The PARO must make the declaration of results and give public notice of:
the person declared elected and, if any, authorised description
the total number of votes given for each candidate
The PARO must also share a copy of the notice of declaration of result with you. As soon as practicable after you receive this notice you must give public notice of it within your voting area.
