Stage 3

Your application will be allocated a case owner within the Commission’s Registration team, who will assess your application against the statutory tests in electoral law.

This includes:

  • Verifying the information provided in your application. This includes checking, for example, that home addresses have been given for party officers.
  • Reviewing your constitution and financial scheme to check if they meet the requirements of electoral law.
  • Assessing whether your proposed party name, any descriptions and any emblems meet the statutory tests in electoral law.
  • Considering whether the declaration of assets and liabilities is properly made and, where a record is provided, that it meets the requirements as set out in electoral law.
  • Considering any relevant context or other information, including what has been provided via public comments.

This assessment will result in a recommendation to approve or refuse your application.

We will also check if your constitution appears to contravene UK equality law. We will contact you if we have any concerns about this.

Occasionally, we may request additional information or clarification from you as part of the assessment process. If this is the case, we will put your application on hold for a short time to allow you to respond. If we do not hear from you by the deadline, we will proceed with the information we have available.
