Generally we will not accept the use of an individual’s name in an identity mark.
This is because instructions on ballot papers often state that the ballot paper is for the election of a candidate to a specific constituency, ward or other area. If a person’s name, other than one of the candidates’, appears on ballot papers for any given area it is likely to contradict the instructions for voting.
We will need to form an opinion as to whether in the particular identity mark we are assessing, the inclusion of the name is likely to contradict or hinder an elector’s understanding of directions given for their guidance in voting, on the ballot paper or elsewhere.
